Original Article From March 16th 2020:
It’s week three of coronavirus in Florida, and the pandemic has touched nearly every part of everyday life.
Sports and events are canceled. Schools and theme parks are closed. Workplaces have begun shifting to remote operations. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended against gatherings of 50 or more people. The Associated Press reported that the country is barreling toward a shutdown.
Currently, as of the writing of this article (March 16th), there are over 100 cases of COVID-19 in Florida. The latest on all the positive tests can be found in Hillsborough and Pinellas County, there are a total of 7 confirmed cases.
For everyone across our globe, March has been an unprecedented time. As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to grow, we start to question whether or not we are informed, prepared, and safe. When schools, businesses, and social gatherings shut down, those in treatment (or looking into addiction treatment) may be apprehensive at this time.
Here at Coalition Recovery, the safety of our staff, our community, and our future community members is of the uppermost concern and importance to us. For this reason, as of three weeks ago, our staff has set in place rigorous policies to ensure the safety of everyone here.
First and foremost, each and every member of our current community and staff have been examined by our doctor to assess the likelihood and potential of carrying this virus. These types of things include symptoms (like coughing and shortness of breath), immune deficiencies, and travel history over the last 3 months. If our doctor feels as though an individual is at moderate risk, he or she will be required to be tested for COVID-19 before returning to treatment or work.
While we understand the tests for COVID-19 are limited, as a health organization, we will take these precautions very seriously. If there is even a moderate chance of carrying this virus, we will ensure the particular individual receives the testing and medical care necessary before moving forward.
These stringent policies have enabled us to maintain control of this outbreak and the health of our community. While the policies stated have covered reactive approaches to the sudden outbreak, our policies have shifted to ensure no one in our care contracts this disease by strictly limiting outside social contact.
Outpatient patients are required to limit outside social contact. These patients will be monitored daily upon entrance into our facility about any symptoms and daily activities outside of treatment.
In-House Requirments During COVID-19 Outbreak
During this month (and possibly through April and May), we will be taking extreme cautious measures to ensure the safety of our guests and the Tampa community.
- Treatment and living facilities will be scrubbed and disinfected multiple times per day.
- Community members and employees are required to wash their hands multiple times throughout the day.
- Coalition Recovery community members who are living in our sober living facilities will be quarantined inside of our residences.
- Group meetings will either be done at the living facility or online. Food provisions and other supplies will all be delivered.
- Traveling outside the house will be limited to treatment and emergencies.
- Weekends will still consist of activities but will be limited to those with limited social contact: such as kayaking and hiking.
Thankfully, Coalition Recovery offers a variety of activities while in treatment and in our sober living facilities to keep our guests occupied during this quarantined time. Our sober living facilities offer a variety of books, board games, yard games, television, movies, as well as a pool to occupy your time.
If you are interested in substance abuse treatment at Coalition Recovery but are hesitant due to the resent Corona Virus outbreak, rest assured that we are taking extreme measures to ensure the safety and health of our guests.
