Although opioid dependency is quite common, it can be rather life-threatening. The long-term changes in the brain’s biochemistry as a result of prolonged use of drugs may make it harder to seek help. Opioid addiction requires immediate medical attention from an addiction treatment program, usually in the form of suboxone treatment. If you or someone you love is struggling with a substance abuse disorder, reach out to Coalition Recovery today.

We offer a variety of specialized drug detox and rehab services, along with remote recovery programs for those who are unable to access an inpatient facility. With a mixture of medically-assisted treatment (MAT), evidence-based therapies (EBT), and ongoing aftercare support, Coalition Recovery has helped countless students and adults overcome their addictions to resume healthier and happier lives.

What Is Suboxone?woman is in a suboxone treatment program

Suboxone is primarily used in a drug detox program as part of standard MAT procedures. Depending on the client’s history with opioid abuse, the doctor may vary and monitor the dosage and usage of suboxone and recommend a residential or an outpatient addiction treatment program.

Suboxone is a prescription drug designed to treat opioid and opiate addiction, although in rare cases, it may be used as a painkiller as well. It is composed of two substances: buprenorphine and naloxone.

Suboxone helps the client cope with withdrawal symptoms while shielding them from the harmful effects of stronger drugs such as heroin. It has two main effects:

  • The buprenorphine triggers the opioid receptors in the brain, providing a milder euphoria to satisfy the patient’s intense cravings for more powerful opiates.
  • On the other hand, naloxone shuts down some of the brain’s receptors in order to protect the patient from potentially misusing the drug.

What Can I Expect in a Suboxone Treatment Program?

Since addiction recovery is different for everyone, the client’s Suboxone treatment program may be customized as per their case history and other circumstances. In Coalition Recovery’s medication-assisted treatment program, you may expect some or all of the following:

  • Crisis intervention
  • A thorough medical diagnosis and psychological evaluation
  • Beginning the use of Suboxone and close monitoring of the client’s response
  • Adjustment of Suboxone dosages as the client stabilizes
  • Daily one-on-one therapy sessions to address trauma and co-occurring disorders
  • Family counseling and education to rebuild a stronger support system
  • Regular support group meetings and ongoing check-ins to prevent relapses
  • Other holistic and recreational activities, as recommended by health professionals

The average dosage of Suboxone may vary between four to 24g, and the treatment usually lasts for one to three weeks.
